Peter Veglahn Memorial Scholarship

The Peter Veglahn Memorial Scholarship serves as a memorial to Peter “Pete” Veglahn who was a long time member of the Shenandoah Valley Society for Human Resource Management (SVSHRM) and a member of the Virginia SHRM State Council. Through Pete’s work on behalf of SHRM and his career as a professor at James Madison University, he made many positive contributions to the advancement of the human resource profession.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a current college students

Emily Sterrett Memorial Scholarship

To honor Emily Sterrett, SVSHRM offers two scholarships in her memory; one for admission for the SHRM Essentials course and one for admission for the SHRM Learning System course. Both courses are offered by the JMU Office of Outreach and Engagement. Emily Sterrett was an active member in our chapter and served as co-chair of the SVSHRM Certification Committee for over ten years. Emily was responsible for and directed the Essentials of Human Resources class and the PHR/SPHR study course through SHRM. Emily passed away in October 2013 after a long battle with cancer. 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be an SVSHRM member

Applicants should submit a document of 250 words or less informing the SVSHRM Board:

  • Why they are taking the course
  • Why they should be selected for the scholarship

Please submit your request electronically to the current SVSHRM President. The deadline to submit your document for scholarship consideration is announced annually via email, in tune with the scheduled preparation course. Watch for an e-blast to announce each course's deadline. 


SHRM and HR Virginia Scholarships

The SHRM Foundation awards $170,000 annually in education and certification scholarships to professional and student SHRM members, and doctoral students.

The HR Virginia scholarship is to underwrite an HR professional’s certification & it’s administered through the SHRM Foundation. Information is included in the number of scholarships offered through the National link.
